Founded in 1855, Manatee County is located south of Hillsborough County along Florida’s west coastline. Manatee County was originally a part of Hillsborough County but after more settlers migrated to Florida, the county formed independently and was named after the Florida manatee. In 1855, Manatee used to include not only Charlotte, DeSoto, and Glades County, but also Hardee, Highlands, Sarasota County and a slice of Lee County. Fast forward a few decades later and Manatee County has been a popular tourist attraction since the 1900s. Today, there is an estimated population of just under 400,000 people living and thriving in this county. The city of Bradenton is the county’s largest city and serves as the county seat.

Manatee County is a popular tourist attraction because of their beautiful beaches, parks and preserves. In fact, this county has 33 parks, 12 preserves and miles and miles of white sandy beaches. For example, the county’s beaches include Anna Maria Island, Coquina Beach, Manatee Beach Park and Palma Sola Causeway Park. In addition, they’re always a long list of things to do in Manatee. For instance, there’s Music on Main Street and Bradenton’s Farmer’s Market which are both recurring community events. Not to mention many other events and happenings.
School District
Not only is Manatee County known for being a popular tourist attraction, but the county is also known for having a very well developed and advancing school district. In fact, the School District of Manatee is student-focused and has an 85% graduation rate among high school seniors in 2018. The graduation rate is actually improving year after year as the county is discovering smart initiatives and helping students as early as 9th grade. When it comes to colleges, Manatee County has the State College of Florida, University of South Florida Sarasota- Manatee campus and New College of Florida.
