Founded in 1887, Pasco was named after Samuel Pasco who was elected to serve in the United States Senate at the time. Before taking on the role of Senator, Samuel attended Harvard College in 1858 and moved to Florida in 1859. Today, Pasco County has a center park dedicated to Samuel called the Samuel W Pasco Recreation and has an estimated population of 540,000 people. In fact, the biggest city in Pasco County is New Port Richey and the county’s seat is Dade City.
